About the Ethnic Synergies Collection
Who are we, in relation to our friends, our families,
our histories?
We are born into a culture that is the outcome of an ethnic and cultural collision. Because of our geographic location, various civilizations, empires, traditions, and styles of governments have affected our unique culture, as well as our perception of art. My current collection explores this legacy of cultural influence on our friends and family. We are all made up of the different influences and elements that have been put together in our societies and in our families, over time, creating the configuration that makes us who we are. Ultimately, as humans, many of us spend much time asking ourselves, ‘Who Am I?’, and this is certainly very true of women, whom I have gravitated to portraying in this collection. Who are we, in relation to our families, our friends, our histories? And how do those influences impact and resound with our own uniqueness? Like the sounds of our voices bouncing off the objects in a room without which no sound could be heard, our personal identities are closely woven into those around us, without whom we wouldn’t be who we are.
